Members of Parliament this past Thursday April 13 ratified Power Purchase agreement relating to B-Kongogoh 120 megawatts projects for the construction of hydro at Kenema district.
Presenting the bill to members of parliament, the Minister of Energy Alhaji Kanja Sesay informed Member of Parliament that the project costs US$ 501M
Mr. Sesay pointed out that this project will provide jobs for 9,000 people, noting that energy is the driving force for the socio-economic development of the country.
He added that the project will be implemented at Goroma Mende in Kenema district.
The Chairman of Energy Committee Hon Kekura Vandy craved the indulgence of his colleague members of parliament to ratify this agreement for the people.
Hon Dr. Mack Mahmoud Kalokoh in his contribution stated that they in the opposition are ready to support anything that will benefit the people of this country but that he wants the Minister to look at the maintenance clause of the agreement.
Hon PC Sanka Kanagbaro 111 said where the project is being implemented at Kenema district is very close to his chiefdom.
Hon Musa Fofanah said this project is timely and that it is line with the midterm national development plan.
He pointed out that the people in that part of the country have been waiting for such for the past 60yrs.
The Acting Leader of Opposition, Hon Hassan A. Sesay said energy is basic ingredients people need and that when there is enough energy supply it will encourage the people to invest, noting that B Kongogoh has not been operating for 25 years.
Hon Dickson Rogers stated that he did not want to see the ministry provide energy but affordable one for the people of this country.
