FREETOWN, Oct. 12 (SALONE TIMES) – The Sierra Leone Police FC is among the clubs that were newly promoted to the premier league. The new sports committee headed by Philip Amara said that they fought hard after years in division1 to promote the team to the premier league.
While in the Premier League for the first time, they have played 13 matches won 2 matches, draw 4 and loss 7 matches with 10 points in second to last position in the league table.
The Police team engaged Central Parade at home last Friday and lost 0-2 to the visitors. The outcome worried their fans who said if their club continues to perform this way, they will relegate to the division1 league.
They were with mixed filling and some said they should sack the entire technical team while some say they need to drop the underperforming players.
Online, SALONE TIMES Sports talked to Philip Amara the Chairman of the Police Sports Committee who said they are aware about what is going on in the team and that they too are not happy.
He though said as a committee they set a record by promoting the club to the premier league which for so many years several past committees have failed to do.
He went on that they will not win the league in their first appearance but assured that they won’t relegate to the division1 league.
Philip said very soon they will be holding a strategic meeting to find a way forward. The Secretary General of the Sports Committee Daniel Koroma said most of the players are ageing players.
He said they allow the players that qualify the team to the premier to continue but hence some can’t cope with tempo of the premier league there will be no option but to replace them with other players.
Daniel went on that they have earmarked some players already and that they are just waiting for the transfer to open after the first round of the league.
He boasted that as a credible institution they have the resources to buy any player and pay them lucrative salaries. He though appealed to the current players to up their game as they will not sack player doing well but that again they will not sit down and see the team relegate.
