In a remarkable gesture of generosity and commitment to their alma mater, the Class of 2008 of Prince of Wales School donated 300 bags of cement to the school on Saturday, February 1, 2025. The donation ceremony took place at the Prince of Wales School compound in Kingtom, Freetown, as part of ongoing efforts to support the school’s infrastructure development.

Welcoming attendees, Yemeh Koroma, a proud old boy of the Class of 2008, expressed the group’s deep sense of gratitude and responsibility toward their former school. He emphasized that the donation was a collective effort by his classmates, who felt it was their duty to give back to the institution that played a pivotal role in shaping their lives.

Speaking at the event, Sulaiman Kamara, President of the Old Prince Waleans Association (OPWA) National Body, applauded the Class of 2008 for their generosity. He encouraged younger generations of Prince Waleans to follow in their footsteps, recognizing and appreciating the contributions made by past students to the school’s growth. He further expressed his hope that the Class of 2008 would remain actively engaged in school affairs, particularly beyond the centenary celebrations.

Richard Moore Conteh, Senior Prefect of the Class of 2008, highlighted that this was not the first time they had given back to their alma mater. He recalled that just a year ago, they had donated 50 desks and chairs to the school. He stressed that their goal was to leave a lasting legacy—one that future classes could look up to and build upon. “We want to be remembered in the history of this great institution, and we hope our contribution will inspire others to do the same,” he remarked. The 300 bags of cement, valued at Le50,000, will be used for ongoing construction projects within the school.

Justice Reginald S. Fynn, Chairman of the Centenary Committee, commended the Class of 2008 for their timely donation, noting that Prince of Wales School has produced outstanding citizens not only in Sierra Leone but across the globe. He emphasized that acts of generosity like this reinforce the school’s legacy of excellence.

“I am delighted that the Class of 2008 has stepped forward to support the centenary celebrations in such a meaningful way. When history is written, your names will be remembered as a class that stood up and contributed significantly to the school’s development,” he said.

He further assured the donors that their contribution would be put to immediate use, given the ongoing construction projects at the school. Concluding his remarks, he encouraged other alumni to follow suit and contribute to the betterment of their alma mater.

The donation by the Class of 2008 serves as a shining example of alumni engagement, reinforcing the spirit of unity and support that defines the Prince of Wales School community.
