FREETOWN, Aug 20 (SALONE TIMES) –  Chairman of the Parliamentary Oversight committee on Water Resources Hon Lahai Marah has said that one of their colleagues, Hon Alice Jebbeh Kumabeh raised concern in the Well of Parliament on the Taia River which has been polluted.

 According to him, there were committees set up to find out about the polluted river.

He explained that when they went there what they saw is very difficult to explained, pointing out that they saw Guineans, Nigerians, Chinese conniving with the villagers in doing illegal mining.

Hon Marah stated that when they went at Tiama village they held the meeting and they discussed with the youths.

Deputy Chairman of the committee Hon Dr. Mark Mahmoud Kalokoh said they were divided into various committees to visit the different places where pollutions were taken place.

Hon Dr. Kalokoh pointed out that the Chairman of the Mines and Mineral Committee Hon Emerson Lamina together with committee members spoke with the Paramount Chief before the committee engaged the communities.

He pointed out that they found out that seventeen lives were lost as a result of the water polluted. He explained that they went as far as Valuniya Chiefdom where there is a serious illegal mining going on by Ghanaians.
