FREETOWN, Oct. 24 (SALONE TIMES) – Over few weeks now, audios making rounds on social media have indicted officials of Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) in sexual harassment and rape allegation of female playing football in the Sierra Leone Female National Team.
This has also resulted in some officials of the FA using intimidatory tactics to silence the female footballers.
On Wednesday 20 October, the Sierra Leone Football Association put out a press release on the issue, stating that the attention of the FA has been drawn to several audio recordings making the rounds on social media and some radio stations, apparently alleging intimidation and sexual harassment of female players in the Sierra Leone National Team.
The FA condemned all forms of allegation of intimidation and sexual harassment against all players and officials be it male or female in the Sierra Leone National Team.
That although the FA never received official complaints about these allegations from the alleged victims, but that due to public outcry and audio recordings, the FA has resolved to investigate the said allegation and that anyone find culpable will be dealt with according to law.
As such, the FA in their release is soliciting evidence from the public that will help in the investigation, a statement that has been condemned by human rights defenders that it is a way of sweeping the allegations under the carpet.
