The Sierra Leone premier league continued this past Friday 10 March with the newcomers Real Republicans FC defeating Ports Authority FC 1-0 at the Angola field, Godrich in Freetown. Before the match the newcomers were 1 point above the relegation zone with 15 points in 15 matches played.
As the host of the match, the officials of Republicans told the players to make good use of the hosting opportunity and go all out for winning.
According to sources within their team, the Chairman of the club told the players that their chance to win the league is slim but said their main priority is to fight hard to stay in the premier league.
Republicans were out of the premier league for 13 years and only qualify this season. They lost their last match played while Ports won their last played.
Port came to face Republicans with the determination to win and promote to the 4th position in the league table. Both teams were highly motivated to go for nothing less than victory.
In the match, Republicans scored the only goal in the 23rd minutes of the first half through Ibrahim Sesay. They maintain the 1 goal lead onto the end of the last minute of the game and secured all the points.
The winning took Republicans from 13th position to the 10th position with 18 points 4 points above relegation. Out of the 16 matches played Republicans have won 5 matches draw 3 and lost 8 matches in the ongoing premier league.
