An American born professional Wrestler Sahid Tejan Kargbo based in USA on Friday last week donated foot wear and training wears to the Sierra Leone Wrestling Association. The donation was done at the NOC Head office at Howe Street in Freetown. Receiving the donated items, the president of the Sierra Leone Wrestling Association Prince Vandy Sualley who also doubles as the NOC President said few years back he came across an article in the Washington Post in which they mentioned about the performance of Sahid and his brother in the college wrestling competitions. He went on that a sports journalist by the name of Emmanuel Pessima in Sierra Leone brought the article to his notice which caught his eyes. He said he too read the article online which said two young Sierra Leoneans are wrestling at high level in America. At that time he said his only immediate contact to know more about the two young wrestlers was through the writer of the article whom he said gave him the contact of the coach for the two boys. Prince said he introduced himself to the coach as the president of the Sierra Leone Wrestling Association and that the country will need the two wrestlers to represent their country in international competitions. The coach in return connects him to the two wrestlers who were more than willing to represent their country in international competitions. But since them he said they have not been chance yet to travel to Sierra Leone to compete in any of the international games. Sahid was born to Sierra Leonean parents but have opted to represent Sierra Leone in international competitions. Among the two, Sahid travelled to Sierra Leone this year and donate to the Wrestling Association on Friday and promised to do more in the future. Sahid said he went to the George Manson University in USA and was part of the college wrestling team. After his course he said he was asked by his former coach to be one of the coaches at the Marymount University in USA for the youth team. Sahid assure the association that he is always ready to represent Sierra Leone in any of the international games either as athletes or to be part of the technical team. Sahid also promised to organize a two days’ workshop at the OlymAfrica Center at Godrich in Freetown for the coaches and the athletes before his departure to America.
