FREETOWN, Sep 20 (SALONE TIMES) – The Sea Scout branch in the Sierra Leone Scout Association has joined hand with the Sierra Leone Swimming and Water Polo Association to organize swimming competition for schools in Freetown.
According to Parcel A. J. Nicolson the Sea Scout Commissioner, Sea Scout is like how they have the Navy in the Army. In this case, he said their role is to rescue people incase of flooding or boat accident in the river or sea.
Because of their role, he said they work in collaboration with the swimming association to train their scouts. To lessen the boarding on them during flooding or sea accident, he said they have decided to work in collaboration with swimming association to train the people how to swim.
He went on that it is also a way to help scout talents for the swimming association in Sierra Leone. According to him, the competition will be done in a form of outing to the Saika Steven Stadium swimming pool in Freetown.
Already, he said they have contacted the interested schools to give representatives for the competition. There will also be inter- Area competition which will involve the various areas the scouts are coming from.
At this time, he said they are going to embark on the Western Area and they will think about involving the provinces in upcoming competitions.
The one day competition ,he said will take place on the 2nd October 2021 at the Siaka Steven Stadium Swimming Pool, Brookfields in Freetown.
At the end of the event, he said they will be given certificates to the participants. The activity will be graced by the Minister and the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Social Welfare Minister who are all part of the Sierra Leone Scout Association.
Apart from them there will also be other Sports personalities and the parents of the participants. Commissioner Nicol went on that they are also planning to give prizes to the best swimmers. He said they have almost target all schools with scouts and that day will also be a day to showcase sea scout activities to the people.
