Shooting Stars qualified for the AFCON U-20 Competition in Liberia after defeating the Baby Scorpions of Gambia 3-0 in the semi-final match of the WAFU A Qualifiers.
On the road to the semi-final stage Sierra Leone drew with Guinea 0-0, they defeated the host Liberia 3-1 and defeated Guinea Bissau 1-0. The victory against Gambia qualified Shooting Stars for the Africa U-20 Competition in Morocco 2025.
In Morocco, the top four countries in U-20 AFCON competition will automatically qualifies for the U-20 World cup in Chile next year.
Sierra Leone and Senegal qualify from the WAFU Zone A and they will join the other qualifiers from the other zones for the Africa U-20 competition.
Beside the qualification the two countries played in the grand final match on Saturday to find the champions and the runner-up of the WAFU A.
But the result for the final match was not known onto press time. Back home according to the Technical Director of the FA Ibrahim Bah, the team will continue to train with the home base players while the foreign base players will return to their various clubs.
Bah who was with the team in Liberia said there is possibility to let them beef up for the AFCON competition in 2025. He went on that it is not because they did not believe in the player that qualifies the team but only that they are going to compete in tougher competition than the zonal qualifiers.
Before the team departs to Liberia, they drop some players who were training with the team. These players, he said will join the team when they return back and if any player perform well during the training they will include him in the squad.
Beside the home base players, the technical team will also invite some foreign base players who are within the age group.
