The Nigeria Cricket Federation Women’s International T20 Invitational Tournament will continue on Saturday with two battles for supremacy matches.
According to the schedule of the tournament based on the results, Nigeria and the league leaders Rwanda who have won all their matches played, will battle for the champion and the runner-up trophy in the final match on Sunday while Sierra Leone and Cameroon having lost two matches and won one match each will battle for the third place trophy. Ghana having lost all three matches played is already out of the tournament. In this case with any result today in the two matches, the four teams will on Sunday again play to decide will emerge champions, runner-up and the bronze medalists.
In the second edition last year, Nigeria defeated Rwanda in the group stage and lost to Rwanda in the final match. Sierra Leone defeated Ghana in the group stage and in the 3rd place match to claim the bronze medals and the 3rd place trophy. According to Famata Pakinson the captain of Sierra Leone their aim was to lift the champion trophy or the runner-up trophy but she assured that they will go all out to return home with the 3rd place trophy. This is the first time the two teams will be meeting in any competition. Sierra Leone travel to Nigeria without 7 of their senior players including the captain that won the bronze medals last year. Among them are their leading batsman Mabinty King, Ann Marie Kamara (all-rounder), Fatmata Kamara (Captain), Mabinty Sankoh, Nancy Square, Mary Sherriff and Ramatu Kasim. The seven players were replaced with U-19 Female players.
