The Sierra Leone National Volleyball team has qualified for the World Beach Championship in Thailand. According to source from Casablanca Morocco, the U-21 qualified after winning four matches in the competition.
The President of the Sierra Leone Volleyball Association Ahmed Khanu confirmed that the above competition is a qualifier tournament for the U-21 World Cup Beach Championship in Thailand.
Sierra Leone is the only country without a female team. Sierra Leone Men’s team falls in a group together with Algeria, Morocco and Ivory Coast.
In the qualifying matches, Sierra Leone started with a 2-1 victory against Ivory Coast, in the following day they defeated Algeria two straight 2-0.
They played their last match against the host country with a two straight victory which took them to the quarter-final stage. The team comprises of Ahmed Junior from Young Stars Volleyball Club, Musa Kamara (Lankey) with John Sorie Kamara as the Coach.
Their next game will be against Mozambique for which a win will lead them to win the championship. The president of the Association Ahmed Khanu said beside the financial constrains his Boys will use the can do spirit to put Sierra Leone on the Global map.
