The delegation of the Sierra Leone National U-19 Cricket team will depart to Abuja-Nigeria today. The president of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association will lead the delegation to Nigeria. The Sierra Leone U-19 national team (The Junior Patriot) will be taking part in the ICC/ACA U-19 Division2 world cup qualifier in Abuja-Nigeria.

The tournament is schedule to kick-start on Friday 30th September 2022 and ends on the 8th October 2022.

Before the kick-off, the team captains will do photo short on Thursday and attend a press conference followed by trainings by the participating teams.

In all 8 countries will be participating in the above 50 overs format tournament which are divided into two groups of four teams each.

Sierra Leone falls in group B together with the host team Nigeria, Rwanda and Botswana. In the opening match on Friday, Sierra Leone will battle with Botswana at pitch2 while the host country will engage Rwanda at pitch 1 on the same day.

 In group A are Kenya Malawi and Ghana and Mozambique. According to the tournament format, two teams will qualify from each group for the semi-final stage. Speaking to the media after the announcement of the final 14 players, the head coach of the team John Alie Kamara said he was certified with the 14 players selected as he too was part of the selection team.

He went on that their game plan is to take each game with seriousness game and that they will not underestimate. In this case, he said their first target is to qualify to the semi-final stage and next to the final. At the final stage, he said they will go all out to win the champion trophy and the gold medals. The Chairman Francis Samura who is the leader of the delegation told the players to put up their best performance and make Sierra Leoneans in Abuja and back home feel proud of them.
