The Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education Dr. Moinina David Sengeh has been awarded World Best Minister of the year 2023 during the World Government Summit (WGS) taking place in the United Arab Emirate (UAE) in Dubai on the 14th February 2023.
The award was presented to Dr. Sengeh by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al, the Vice President, Prime Minister, and Minister of Defence of the United Arab Emirates.
According to the Managing Director of the World Government Summit Organisation Mr Omar Sultan Al Olama, the Best Minister Award commends the extraordinary work of government ministers at demonstrating excellence in the public sector and their design and implementation of successful, scalable and sustainable initiatives for socio-economic advancement of their citizens.
He said it also celebrates efforts to inspire and lead other government leaders and service providers towards promoting innovation and foresight in shaping public discourse on global issues of today and tomorrow.
He said the nomination and assessment process is a multi-faceted listing process used by the WGS to identify key Ministers, based on both primary and secondary sources, who have successfully implemented high impact initiatives over the last 18 months, adding that the longlisted Ministers are then shortlisted following due diligence screening and are further assessed on the nomination criteria.
“I am really proud of where I come from. However, Sierra Leone is infamous for a decade-long civil war in the 1990s when entire villages were burnt down. I resolved that I will do everything I could to ensure that my own children don’t go through the same experiences we had. An investment in education is the best gift any nation can give to their children. Our Policy on Radical Inclusion reaffirms the government’s position that we will stop at nothing until every boy and girl can access and stay safely in school,” the Sierra Leone’s Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education Dr Moinina David Sengeh told the summit.
