Sky Bank (SL) Limited, one of Sierra Leone’s leading financial service providers, has opened its new branch in Waterloo, bringing banking services closer to the community. The bank, which is powered by a robust technological framework, offers a wide range of financial products and services designed to meet the needs of customers.

The grand opening, which took place on Friday, January 10, 2025, was attended by local stakeholders, bank officials, and members of the rural district council, among others.

Sky Bank (SL) Limited, incorporated in Sierra Leone on August 10, 2007, as a private limited liability company, is a subsidiary of Sifax Group Nigeria Limited. Licensed by the Bank of Sierra Leone (BSL) in August 2009, the bank operates in several segments, including Retail Banking, Commercial Banking, and Treasury, Corporate, and Investment Banking.

Sifax Group, a major player in sectors such as maritime, aviation, oil & gas, haulage & logistics, financial services, and hospitality across West and Central Africa, has its headquarters in Nigeria and subsidiaries in Sierra Leone, The Gambia, and Guinea.

During the opening ceremony, Sky Bank’s Managing Director and CEO, Fasasi Charles Adeniye, expressed gratitude to the people of Waterloo for welcoming the bank into their community. He highlighted the significant strides the bank has made in Sierra Leone’s banking sector, with five branches now operating in the country, placing Sky Bank in the top ten among the thirteen banks in Sierra Leone.

“The reason for opening a branch in Waterloo is to make banking services more accessible to the people here,” the CEO said. “Our goal is to foster business growth and empower individuals within the community.”

He further emphasized that the new branch reflects the trust and confidence clients have placed in the bank, thanks to strong partnerships built over the years. Adeniye attributed the bank’s success to the dedication, hard work, and vision of its exceptional team, promising that Sky Bank will maintain high standards of customer service across all its branches.

He also pledged to work with local authorities and community members to promote financial inclusion in Waterloo and to support businesses in the area.

Sky Bank’s Board Chairman, Hon. Brimah Conteh, noted that in less than five years, the bank has expanded to seven branches across the country, underscoring its commitment to client service and business growth. He encouraged the Waterloo community to take advantage of the bank’s diverse financial services and attractive interest rates, assuring them of quality service.

Mr. Bah, Director of Banking Supervision at the Bank of Sierra Leone, commended Sky Bank for its consistent growth in assets and profit. He expressed his support for the bank’s expansion, stating that it aligns with the Bank of Sierra Leone’s mission to bring banking services closer to the public. He also highlighted the importance of digital banking, including mobile payments and the national switch, which allows customers to access funds from any bank in the country.

“The opening of the Waterloo branch is a significant step in promoting financial inclusion,” Mr. Bah said. “We are pleased to collaborate with Sky Bank in advancing this cause.”

Chief Alimamy Bethembeng II of Waterloo also extended his appreciation to Sky Bank for opening a branch in the community.
