FREETOWN, July 14 (SALONE TIMES) – Board members of the Sierra Leone Cricket Association have in a meeting appointed three Team Managers for two U-19 teams and one senior team. Among the three teams are the female U-19 national team, U-19 male national team and senior male national (The Patriot). Three teams are preparing to take part in three ICC Africa World Cup qualifying tournaments in September, October and November 2022. In the board meeting they agreed to let the former Chairman of the above association Beresford Bournes-Coker become the Chairman for the female U-19 team, Daniel Koroma was reappointed Team Manager of the U-19 Boys national team and Serry Turay who was recently appointed as the team manager for the senior female national team has now been appointed as the Team Manager for the senior male national team.
According to the fixtures for the above tournaments the ICC Women’s U-19 T20 Cricket World Cup Africa Division2 qualifier will take place in Botswana 1st September 2022 to 13th September 2022. The female are in group B together with the host Botswana, Namibia and Uganda. In group A are Rwanda, Nigeria, Malawi, Tanzania and Mozambique. Two teams will qualify from each group for the semi-final stage. The two finalists will qualify for the division1 ICC World Cup qualifying tournament. The U-19 Men’s World Cup Africa Division2 qualifier will take place in Nigeria from the 21st September 2022 to 2nd October 2022. In the U-19 Men’s tournament Sierra Leone is in group B together with the host Nigeria, Botswana and Rwanda. The U-19 Men’s national team has been cut down to 18 players that will camp at the Njala Monkonde compound for team training until few days to their departure. The senior male team will take part in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup qualifier tournament in Rwanda November 2022. Sierra Leone falls in group B of the qualifying together with Mali, Mozambique, Nigeria, St Helena, Seychelles and Tanzania. The group B qualifying will kick-off on the 30th November- 6th December 2022 in Rwanda. The technical team in collaboration with the selection committee announced 18 players yesterday that will be camped soon.
