The Sierra Leone Cricket Association Women’s Cricket Premier League kicked-off over the weekend with Mid-West defeating Wanderers by 10 wickets.
The association is organizing two types of female T20 leagues going side by side at two venues. At the Police field in Kingtom they have the division1 league which involve six division1 club. The six clubs are Hastings Female, Newtons Female, Murray Town Female, Middleton Female, Stadium Stars and Copper Safe.
In the premier league are Mid-West, Wanderers, Correctional Centre, Special Line, Kent and Police. Two matches are to take place every weekend on Saturdays and Sundays.
The division 1 league was called off on Saturday due to a football match at the Police field. At POW Ovals, the second match did not take place due to an inter-House school sports at the field.
According to the fixtures the premier league continued this past Sunday 5th March with Kent engaging Police in the first match and facing Special Line in the second match.
In the division1 fixtures for Sunday, Coffer Safe faced Stadium Stars in the morning and Murray Town in the afternoon. But the results of the Sunday matches were not known until press time.
Also at the opening ceremony, the association presented trophies for the various leagues this year and present trophies to last year’s winners in both youth and senior leagues for male and female.
According to the Chairman of the Cricket board Francis Samura, the women’s have three international competitions to take part in this year.
In this case, he said the technical team will be having a close look at the ongoing league to select players for the national team. He called on the players to play the league with seriousness as it is the starting point for the national teams.
