The defending champions of the Women’s premier league Mogbwemo Queens were over the week crowned champions of the above league at home after a 6-0 victory against Albitaya FC.
The 2023/24 champion trophy was the second time in roll the Queens from Mogbwemo has won it. The crowning of the Women’s premier league champions was graced by the first gentleman of Sierra Leone football Association, Thomas Daddy Brima.
After their last match in the league, the President of the FA presented the champion trophy and a cheque of Le200, 000 (new money) to the team.
He first congratulated the team for their relentless effort to retain the trophy. He went on to commend the technical team and the management of the team. He told the management that they are aware that they are doing it out of love as the females do not realize like the male teams do.
But said is a way to help female football grow in the country. The FA president called on business houses and individuals to come onboard and help female football grow in the country.
He assured them that the FA will do their utmost level best to support them always. To the players, he told them not to relent as they will be going into another challenge which is the CAF Women’s Club Champion’s league.
He told them not to use the off season as a jolly time but to use it to redouble their trainings and make sure they qualify to the group stage of CAF Club Champions league this time round.
To the team that lost to Mogbwemo 6-0 he told them not to discourage but to go back to the drawing board and prepare for the next season.
And to the other premier league clubs, he told them to them to redouble their efforts and strengthen to get a team that will challenge the champion’s next season.
