Speaker of Parliament Dr. Abass Bundu has said that some work has been going in parliament since 2021 by an European Grant of 27 M Euro for which the sum of 3M Euro was allocated to parliament for renovation.
He explained that the money was given to the United Nation Office For Project Services (UNOPS) for the renovation of Parliament of Sierra Leone wherein they (UNOPS) sub- contracted contractors who did poorly using substandard materials to do the renovation work.
Dr. Bundu pointed out that an assurance committee was set up to look at the renovation work that had been going on in parliament.
In July 2022, the committee through the Clerk of Parliament completed its work on the renovation of parliament and they came out with their findings.
The Speaker thanked the Assurance Committee and said that action should be taken against UNOPS and there sub- contractors, noting that what they did is tantamount to contempt of parliament.
