FREETOWN, May 14 (SALONE TIMES) –The executive of the Sierra Leone Sports Writers Association (SWASAL) for over 40 years in existence on Thursday launched its website, code of conduct and their new logo at the Harry Yasaneh Hall, SLAJ Headquarter, Campbell Street in Freetown. In his statement the President of the Sierra Leone Sports Writers Association (SWASAL) Sahr Morris Jr. said since they took up power, his motive has always been to upgrade the association to be at par with international standard. He pointed out that globally, activities are now dominated by social media a reason he said they have decided to get a website for the association where they will be disseminating all sporting news and information about the association. He told the members of the various sporting associations who were at the ceremony that the website will help sell out the activities of the various sporting disciplines in the country. This he said can go on well with the cooperation of the various sports by giving open hands to sports journalists to get tangible information about them. On the side of the code of conduct he said it is in line with SLAJ and IMC code of conduct. This he said it is to guide their members to report independently. Morris went on that though there is press freedom in the country there is also the cyber law being enforced. He therefore warned his members to be very careful in doing their job. Morris appealed to NOC, NSA, SLFA and other sporting associations to think about the involvement of their colleagues in both international and local competitions to give reports on them. Representing the national the National Olympic Committee (NOC) Prince Sualley called on all to give maximum respect to journalists as they are the ones who disseminate information on sports activities to the masses. Prince also called the various media institutions to upgrade the welfare of the journalists. He assured SWASAL members that NOC relationship will continue and be stronger. In launching the website, the Chairman of Mighty Blackpool FC Rodney Michael applauded the new executive for thinking big and went ahead to warned them on consistency as according to him several websites has been launched before but today there is nothing much to read about in the websites as they hardly upgrade them. The code of conduct of the association was launched by Ahmed Khanu the president of the Sierra Leone Volleyball Association. A special edition of the association newspaper was also launched with an appeal to the audience to donate for the up keeping of the paper. Millions of Leones were donated by the audience in the hall.
