FREETOWN, Aug 1 (SALONE TIMES – 232news.com) – The Sierra Leone second batch of delegation which involves athletes, coaches and other officials arrived safely at the Gatwick Airport in London on Friday 22nd July 2022. The team proceeded to Birmingham in a 4-hour drive to Birmingham where the Games will be hosted. The team successfully completed their COVID-19 test on Saturday after being updated by the Chef de Mission. The team later received their accreditation for the access of the games. After all the above the athletes have been engaged in rigorous trainings in the gyms, pool and on the tracks. Sources state that the athletes are in high spirit to win laurels for the country. On Sunday 24th July 2022 the Boxing team was at the information center to get relevant details about the various boxing fights. On Monday they have their first training session in the boxing gym for 1hr 30 minutes. The second session training took place on Tuesday 26th July 2022. The boxing checks, according to source, will start today at 9:00 am and end at 2:00 pm at the weighing room. The technical meeting will take place today at 4:30pm-5:30pm. The draws for the various weight category bouts will start at 5:45pm-6:45pm. The swimmers have also been engaged in the gym and the pool so as well as the wrestlers, athletics, Badminton athletes are all set for opening ceremony tomorrow. Among Swimmers Joshua JJ Wyse an Olympian will represent Sierra Leone in the 50M free and fly strokes, Isha Kanu 50M Back and Breast stroke, Mohamed Kamara 50M Free and Breast Stroke and Titi Dumbuya an Olympian in 50M Free and Fly strokes. In all 72 Commonwealth nations with over 5,000 athletes from 20 sporting disciplines are expected to participate in 280 events. The official opening ceremony of the events will take place tomorrow 28th July 2022 and will end on the 8 August 2022. The executive of the National Olympic Committee, NSA and Sports Ministry officials are all in Birmingham to guide and give advice to the athletes and the coaches throughout the games.
