FREETOWN, Oct. 24 (SALONE TIMES) –The Commonwealth Games Queens Baton arrived in Sierra Leone on Friday 22nd October 2021. Sierra Leone is being the 7th country to receive the Queen’s baton. The baton arrived in Nigeria on the 15th October 2021.
The Vice President of Nigeria Yemi Osinbayo received the baton at the Tolani State House in Abuja on behalf of the President. In Sierra Leone at the airport, Manager of the Lungi Airport received the Baton from the delegation and pass it on to the Paramount Chief of Kafu Bullom Chiefdom.
The Chief in return handed over the baton to the Commonwealth Games Association (CGA) organizing committee members. From there the baton was taking to Freetown together with the delegation. The second day baton relay started at the Bintumani Hotel car park on Saturday. From the Bintumani Hotel the baton was taking to Aberdeen onto the beach enrooted to the Family Kingdom Hotel.
The baton was taken to the Lumley Police Station alongside athletes and officials. From the Police station, the baton moved to the British Council High Commissioner’s residence followed by ISAT at Hill Station in Freetown.
The athletes and the CGA members run down with the baton to Sierra Leone House of Parliament onto to the State House. From State House, the baton was taken to the business center in Freetown and Standard Chartered Bank at Lightfoot Boston Street. From the bank, the Freetown City Mayor received the baton at the City Council building where the Saturday may end. On Sunday, the baton was taken to the peninsular historic areas using the Keke tricycles. The rally continues to Sussex historic areas where it ended. The baton will be handed over to the delegation who will travel with it to Ghana.
