FREETOWN, July 7 (SALONE TIMES) – The Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA) in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Sports Writers Association (SWASAL) will be organizing a three days training course for sports journalists in Freetown.

The above course is to enable the sports journalists to report on Cricket matches and other activities. According to the SWASAL President Sahr Morris Jr,  most of the journalists are more concentrated on reporting  football, leaving other sports out.

The reason, he said majority don’t know the rules of the other sports. He went on that they are starting with Cricket and will extend it to other sports.

The Chairman of Cricket Board Francis Samura said the venture is a welcome news for cricket as it will help to sell out the game.

He went on that ICC has asked them to upgrade and expand the game. By so doing, he said they need the media greatly. In all, he said SWASAL will be registering 20 journalists from all over the country and they will be joined by 4 SLCA media officials.

In the course, SLCA will provide feeding, lodging and transportation for the provincial sports journalists.

The course will start today at the Police Wives Multi-Purpose Hall in Kingtom, Freetown. The tutors for the course will be the Chairman himself Francis Samura with Level2 coaching certificate and an ICC Certified Umpire certificate and Linda Bull, the female team captain, a Level 1 coaching certificate and an ICC certified Umpire certificate.

The course will end on Friday with a cricket match in which the participants will be asked to report on.
