The Western Area Football Association (WAFA) is to hold elective congress to elect new executive to run the football affairs of the above region.
Due to the above, the WAFA executive has announced that the reschedule dates now for the various elections are as follows: Rural 27th June 2023, Urban District 28th June 2023 and the Region election will be on the 30th June 2023.
The press release went on that they will announce the venues and the shortlisted names of candidates will be published in due course.
But one of the candidates for the Chairman position Noel Kitami Horton in a press conference informed the media that they have called on the national football body SLFA to intervene into the process now as according to him the executive have tampered with the WAFA constitution.
He went on that most of things stated in most of the press release by the executive are not in line with what the constitution states.
He went on that the executive is doing all this to disfranchise most of the candidates and the delegates to let them get an easy way to be re-elected.
One of the criteria, which he said WAFA mentioned in the release is that any candidate going for Chairman, Vice Chairman or the CEO should be active member of WAFA for ten years.
This, Noel said is not mentioned in any part of the constitution. This ten years clause, he said is to let their own candidate go unopposed which they will not agree on.
In fact, he said the executive has long time flout the constitution as the constitution states that if a Chairman of the association dies, they are to elect new Chairman in 90 days’ time.
In this case, he said when former Chairman Foday Turay Passes on they violated the 90 days clause and hold on the power for over 5 years until when the national FA urged them to go to congress.
Noel said 80% of the delegates are supporting them for this protest and that they have warned the executive that they will not accept any candidate to go unopposed through default.
He went on that he has paid his own candidature fee of Le15M which they have received. Also in the press conference complaining was John G Lavalie who is vying for ex-officio member position.
