FREETOWN – The above series title is question that was asked about 2000 years ago by the person in discussion (Jesus Christ). The first is generalised in which a set of large number of people have their own view. Matthew 16:13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” The second is personal which deals with your own perception and inward conviction. Matthew 16:15 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” This writing will be based on attacking the two.
Regardless the fact this question has been asked centuries ago and the truthful answer was given by Apostle Peter through a revelation from God Himself. Matthew 16:17 …Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in heaven. Till date people still ask this same question. Some have received the answer to it but still don’t accept. For situations like that it’s either you were not given enough details to convince you or you were given but because of your stubborn heart in accepting the truth you refuse to accept.
Almost all the writings, if not all the writings you have been receiving from us is centered on this one individual (Jesus Christ). The big question now is, WHO IS THIS MAN? Infact was He just a Man, or is He more than a Man? Was He just a prophet like the disciples said that was how people saw him, Matthew 16:14 They replied, “Some say John the Baptist…Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”, or is He more than a prophet?
Before going into full details answering these questions, we need to know that history is history and history does not change. Any historical book that deliberate on events about 2000 years ago will out rightly state that the Man called Jesus Christ existed and walked this earth. Many archaeologists had wanted to dispute this claim by making further research, travelling and digging and following historical details. Today many archaeological articles that intend to talk about the earth walked of Christ will agree that He was actually here (make your research for further details).
History might not be enough to exhaust this truth and convict the hearts of most people. Well some religious books like the Quran makes reference that Jesus Christ existed and walked this earth as well. But the question is not about His existence. A rundown of His existence is just given to bring to picture that He was before going into details of who He is. The question still stand, WHO IS JESUS?
The revelation of whom Christ is clearly written in scriptures which happens to be a historical truth in which we believe is the word of God unto Man. For some that might not see it that way, I will be bringing in some scientific facts and instances to broaden our understanding and narrowing it down to our common goal which is to answer the question, WHO IS JESUS?
From scriptures, we are meant to understand who Jesus is through the confession of Apostle Peter. Matthew 16:16 *Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” This is verse gives us a clear picture in answering the question ‘who is Jesus?’. The word *Christ* is derived from the Greek word Kristos which means the anointed one. A broad truth but unacceptable statement by many made by Apostle Peter as well was calling Jesus SON OF GOD. Why Son of God? We will be answering that soon.
The old testament which is believed to have existed years before the coming of Jesus described Him before He was born. How the whole process was to occur(from birth to death) was stated. Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel. Another is Psalms 22:6 But I am a worm and not a man, scorned by men and despised by the people*(Read the whole chapter to get the full detail). Jesus accomplishing and fulfilling all that was written about the Christ justifies the truth that He is the Christ.
An undeniable scientific fact is, the blood which flows in an unborn babe’s arteries and veins is not derived from the mother but is produced within the body of the fetus itself only after the introduction of the male sperm. Since there is no life in the egg until the male sperm unites with it, and the life is in the blood, it follows that the male sperm is the source of the blood (reference from the chemistry of Blood).
History clearly states that the birth process of Jesus was unique. In other words, Jesus wasn’t given birth to through the normal intercourse relation between two opposite gender. A virgin conceived through the overshadowing of the Holy Spirit. Luke 1:35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. The big question to bring to mind is, WHOSE BLOOD WAS JESUS CARRYING? As stated in the reference of the first paragraph, the blood of a fetus is as a result of the male element inserted in the female egg. And we all know that Mary was a virgin, hence he had no human male element inserted in her. In a nutshell, JESUS CARRIED THE BLOOD OF HIS FATHER WHO IS GOD THROUGH THE HOLY SPIRIT. This is one derivation for His qualification as Son of God.
Another is a declaration made by God Himself when He was baptised. Matthew 3:17 And a voice from heaven said, “THIS IS MY SON, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.” Like I said earlier, scriptures is our anchor. Another question comes to mind, how is it possible for deity to have a Son?
Interestingly, this has been a serious disagreement between christians and other set of religions. How is it possible for deity to have a Son? Lack of understanding of the Holy trinity and looking at the whole scene from the physical perspective, it will be very difficult for one to understand that it’s a possible occurrence. We don’t serve three different gods, God is one. God manifested Himself in three persons. This is possible, and a clear evidence we can get from nature itself.
From the kinetic theory of matter, water is capable of existing in three states physically but chemically it’s the same water. Man likewise is three in one being. A spirit, have a soul and lives in a body. 1 Thessalonias 5:23 …May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept… God is one in essence and three in person. The Father, Son and the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19 …the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. God manifested Himself as Son in the form of Jesus Christ to saved Mankind from it’s Sinful nature and give him eternal life. Why?
Man sinned so Man had to pay. It’s called a legal justice. God has the power to declare Man righteous but that will be illegal justice for the consequence of Sin. So God had to come down in the form of Man(sinless one, that was why He had to go through a virgin), to pay the price for the sin of Man. 2 Corinthians 5:21 God made him who had no sin to be sin for us… The Holy Spirit who happen to be the third party in the trinity is God in Man. Temples made with hands can not inhabit God, so God made a way to live and dwell in Man through the Holy Spirit. John 14:23 *…My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.
