Few days ago, the Minister of Sports Ibrahim Nyelenkeh told journalists in a press briefing that the Government of Sierra Leone has approved over Le2B (old money) into the account of the Sierra Leone Premier League Board.

The said amount, he said is to enable the premier league board to run the 2022/23 premier league. He went on that a balance of over Le700M (old money) will be added after the payment of government salaries to round the figure to Le3B.

He however urged the FA and the premier league board to start looking out for sponsors as it is not mandatory for the government to sponsor the premier or any league.

Nyelenkeh went on that President Bio is doing this because he loves football and wants the game to grow. To work within their calendar and to meet the deadline of CAF club competition registrations, the premier board has released fixtures for the two rounds league to start on Friday 9th December 2022 with the first round to end in March 2023. According to the fixtures, on the opening day, the title holders Bo Rangers will host the newly promoted Real Republicans FC on Friday 9th December 2022 in Bo at the Bo stadium.

The defending champions are determine to win the championship trophy back to back while the newcomers who have been absent in the premier league for 13 years have said they have come to stay.

In this case, if both teams are to go by what they have said they should start it in their first match. Football analysts have seen the above encounter as a tough encounter based on the performance of the two teams in their pre-season matches.

A member of the premier league board said they are planning to do several updating on match officiating; teams’ punctuality, security aspect and several other things that will let the game play free and fair.
