FREETOWN – Minister of Finance Jacob Jusu Saffa has presented Le 9.2 trillion budget for 2021 on Friday 13 November  2020 at the Well of Parliament, Parliament Building, Tower Hill in Freetown.

Presenting the budget to members of parliament, he (Saffa) said the Appropriation Act 2021 being an act should authorize expenditure from the consolidated fund for the services of Sierra Leone for the year 2021 and for other related matters.

According to the Finance Mnister, salaries for Military personnel, Police Officers, Correctional Service Officers, Fire Force Officers and Staff of tertiary institution will receive 25% increase of salaries for a period of three years effective April 2021.

That they are going to recruits 1,000 teachers in 2021 which will increase government wage bill from Le3.3 trillion to Le3.5 Trillion.

That Le 7.9 billion is allocated to the ministry of Health and Sanitation that will support the fight against Covid 19, Le 15.2 billion is provided to the Ministry of Social Welfare for social Programme, 7.2 billion is given to Ministry of Basic and Senior Education for School Feeding Programme and that Le 426 billion is provided to the Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Food Security for support rice and food crops.

 Le 2.6 billion is also provided to the Monument and Relics Commission, Le 18 billion  to Judiciary of Sierra Leone, Le 6 billion to Statistics Sierra Leone, and Le 96.6 billion to Sierra Leone Police,

 For parliament, there previous allocation was Le14.7 billion but has been increased to Le 29.1 billion.
