FREETOWN, Aug 25 (SALONE TIMES) – The Women’s T20 World Cup Global qualification will be played under 20 overs format with two groups of 6 and 5 in group of round robin matches.
The top 2 in each group will qualify to the semi-final stage. The winner of the tournament will qualify for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier to be held in 2022.
Sierra Leone falls in Group B with Cameroun, Namibia, Nigeria and Uganda. In Group A are Botswana (host), Eswatini, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
According to the organizers all teams should arrive on the 7th September 2021. On the 8th the captains will take shoots with the Champion trophy to be followed with press conference and team trainings.
The tournament will take place at the Botswana Cricket Avenue 1&2. The tournament will kick-off on the 9th September 2021 with Sierra Leone facing Nigeria in a West African derby match in the afternoon.
Sierra Leone stands a chance to defeat Nigeria as Sierra Leone has record over them. Sierra Leone only lost to Nigeria in their first World T20 qualifying in Uganda few years back and they have won previous matches the two have met in.
Sierra Leone will rest the next day and will engage Cameroun on the 11th September 2021 in the afternoon hours.
Team Sierra Leone will again rest on the 12th September 2021 and will engage Namibia on the 13th September 2021 in the afternoon. Sierra Leone will play their last group stage match against Uganda on the 14th September 2021. Sierra Leone female team will depart Sierra Leone on the 5th September 2021 to Botswana.
