FREETOWN – Youth and Children’s Advocacy Panel (YACAP) On 24th January 2021 has Continued to engage Children’s and head of Schools at their office Headquarter at 62 old Lowcost Housing Kissy.
Youth And Children’s Advocacy Panel (YACAP) is a non-profit organization registered in Sierra Leone, Guinea, Liberia, Ghana and Gambia
YACAP is an international Youth and Child Led Organization that advocated for the right, protection and Development of Children and Young People and for the promotion of the basic human rights of women and the girl child in Africa.
Executive Director Amb Sulaiman Mansaray said over the years, YACAP has not only mitigated issues affecting the youth and children but they have developed a friendly environment in both schools and universities that have helped transformed and capacitated children and young people to be changed makers in society including the institutions they find themselves not limited to Nation building and making the World a better place.
He noted the organization’s aim is to capture them when they are young with the Right mindset so when they begin to grow in the Adult Age, they will become patriotic and responsible citizen which will help build a strong foundation for a better future
He explained that the purpose about this engagement is as to which he directly referred to children as leaders of today that consists of 41% under the Youth population of below the age of 15yrs and the engagement is to see how best Children will know about their Rights and responsibilities as Children and how they can be responsible and productive in society
He noted that to achieve all that, the teachers and school heads have great role to play to ensure they protect the right of children in their various institutions and for them to be able to provide cancelling or phycological First Aid to student in other to create a safe and friendly learning environment for children.
One of the Principals from Saint Benedict secondary school, Mary Samba thanked the organization for job well done over the years and how most of their students are now doing extremely well in different universities.
She added that her institution has ensured to creates that safer learning environment for their students and how they constantly get in touch with parents to ensure they all contribute to development of their children
She noted that she believes that if Sierra Leone as a nation focuses on children’s development by installing the right mindset and creating the platform for the children to unleash their fullest potential.
