Will The Increase In Referees Match Allowance Minimise Or Stop Match Fixing?

The President of the Sierra Leone Football Association Babadi Kamara in the celebration of his one year in office stated that the executive of the FA has increased the allowances of match referees from Le700 to Le2000 per match.

This, according to him is to discourage referees from accepting money from club officials to fix matches in favour of them. Before this time, allegations of fixing matches for money have been widespread.

The complains come mostly from teams that lost matches. But the fact is those complaining have never reported the matter with clear evidence even when the referee’s executive have challenged them on several occasions.

Now the question fans are asking is whether the increase in the allowance will help to minimize or stop match fixing in the country. According to them, match fixing is not just done through referees but sometimes through the players themselves.

In this case, they have said let there be a strict measure and punishment for anyone’s cut in the act of match fixing. Beside the increase in the allowance, the FA President also talked on their achievements during his one year.

He told the audience that he is pleased about for their achievement in one year. Under his regime, he said there have been discipline, transformations and the construction of 435 seater pavilion at the SLFA Headquarters, Kingtom in Freetown.

The pavilion construction he said is funded by him and his family. He also dilated on the new headquarters which they will be transferring to as one of the finest buildings in the country.

Babadi said when he took over power, they inherited several debts but they never made noise about it, instead they decided to pay them quietly.

Under his regime, he said they have paid all prize moneys on time for the various leagues with the leagues now improving than before. The first congress under his regime, he said was the best ever in Sierra Leone.

He went on that they have capacitated the coaches with several License courses and they are trying to bring back License A course to Sierra Leone.
