The President of the Sierra Leone Archery Federation last Thursday 23 November presented a delegation of athletes and an official who took part in the Africa Championship in Tunisia.
The above championship was the first ever competition that the Sierra Leone Archery participated in since when it was formed.
According to the Archery president, Yayah Koroma the championship was also an Olympic qualifier with just three spaces for Africa.
He went on that Sierra Leone did not qualify but the most important part is they are now ranked among Africa countries.
Besides the ranking, he said the competition exposed the athletes as they learnt a lot of experience during the competition.
Yayah told the NOCSLE executive that they were at the NOC office to say thanks to them and to let the NOC president do a symbolic presentation of the certificates to the athletes and the Technical Director of the association.
He said had it not being for the help of the NOC executive, they wouldn’t have taken part in the competition.
The Treasurer of NOC Unisa Deen Kargbo thanked the Archery executive for their work and effort for the short time to get a team that could represent Sierra Leone.
He went on that all this is happening because at first they concentrated on organizing local competitions which enable them to select the best among the lot to represent Sierra Leone in their first international competition.
He encouraged the athletes not to relent as there are more competitions ahead and may be they will get wild card to take part in the Olympic Games.
The NOC President Prince Sualley congratulated the athletes as beginners for representing Sierra Leone well in a foreign country. He thanked the president of Archery whom he said is hard working and dedicated.
Prince told the Archery executive that the NOC doors are always open for them at any time. The Vice President of NOCSLE Idrisa Massaquoi told them that this is just the beginning and more is behind.
