Sierra Leone’s national team captain Emmanuel King has won the country’s first gold medal in the 13th All Africa Games Scrabble competition in Accra, Ghana. The competition brought 14 countries with 24 players in the male category. This gold is King’s first medal after 15 appearances in the international stage. Back home he had won several medals to be crowned Sierra Leone Champion. King told journalists that it was a proud moment for him and his country.

In athletics, Sierra Leone Georgiana Sesay qualified to the semi-finals stage with time 53.35 seconds in the 400m heat for women. Also in the 4 by 400m mixed relay heat Sierra Leone qualified by performance with a time of 3:32.97 seconds. In the morning hours Afisatu Kamara and two other athletics athletes on Monday failed to clock the qualification time in their 100m heats to qualify to the semi-final. Among them Afisatu the US based sprinter finished in 7th position in the 100m heat 3 clocking 10.05 seconds, in the other heats Aminata Bolingo Kamara in16th position in the heat 5 100m clock 12.46 and in the male category F. Lawrence in 5th position clock 10.79. After collating the time three of the Sierra Leone athletes were below the time that could qualify them to the semi-final 100m race. In her statement the US based sprinter Afisatu said she was in Ghana with the plan to do her best to win medal for Sierra Leone but it turned out the other way. She though said she will her level best in the other Olympics qualifiers to qualify and represent Sierra Leone in the France Olympic Games this year. For Lawrence the Coach Harold said the All Africa Games was Lawrence first international competition. Lawrence started the race well but relaxed few meters to the end of the race. In this case the coach said he has prospect and that he just needed more training and exposure, a same feat as Aminata. Meanwhile in Boxing on Sunday in the Featherweight Wisdom from the blue corner lost to his Botswana counterpart Vomber in the red corner through injury when the fight was called off the fight early in the second rounds of the fight after medical inspection. On Monday Sara Joo 57kg lost her bout to her Nigerian counterpart Sakura with a 2-1 decision (4-1 points).  Meanwhile Sierra Leone’s last hope in boxing Josephine fought yesterday but the result was not known until press time.
