Freetown Terminal Limited has reinforced its commitment to workplace safety and community wellbeing by launching a Drug Sensitization Program themed “Say No to Drugs.” The initiative, held on 18th April 2026 at Moa Wharf and the Seaside, brought together employees, health professionals, advocates, and young people to confront the growing challenge of substance abuse and its impact on society.

Unlike traditional awareness campaigns, this program was designed to blend workplace safety with community empowerment. By engaging employees alongside youth and medical experts, Freetown Terminal highlighted the interconnectedness of workplace productivity, mental health, and social resilience. The event created a platform for dialogue, education, and personal testimony, ensuring that the message resonated across different audiences.

Dr. Abubakarr Saccoh of PCMH and Welbodi Service explained that drug abuse is not simply occasional misuse but a persistent behavior that undermines health and wellbeing. He warned that addiction often continues despite awareness of its harmful effects, making prevention and early intervention critical. Saccoh emphasized that medical professionals are increasingly alarmed by rising substance abuse among young people, and ongoing research is vital to developing effective treatment strategies.

Dr. Gabriel, a house officer at the Davison Nicol Medical Center, focused on the psychological consequences of prolonged drug use. He noted that substance abuse can trigger anxiety, depression, and impaired decision-making, underscoring the need for community support systems to help individuals avoid long-term damage.

One of the most moving segments featured testimonies from recovering drug users. Teriza Randall shared her personal journey, warning young people about the dangers of substance abuse and emphasizing the long-term harm it can cause. “If you stop taking drugs, your life will improve,” she said. “You can pursue your dreams with passion and achieve your goals.” Her story served as a powerful reminder of the human cost of addiction and the possibility of recovery.

In his keynote address, Maroun Abi Aad urged young people to recognize the dangers of drug abuse and make informed choices. He described drug abuse as a reality that destroys dreams and futures, often beginning with curiosity or peer pressure before spiraling into addiction. He encouraged youth to resist negative influences, support peers who may be struggling, and seek help when needed. “Every time you say no to drugs, you are saying yes to your future,” he declared, reinforcing the program’s central message of empowerment and resilience.

Participants praised the initiative as timely and impactful, noting its relevance in addressing both workplace safety and broader community health. The program concluded with a strong call for collective action to promote a drug-free society. Organizers emphasized the importance of prioritizing mental health, resisting harmful influences, and investing in positive, life-building activities.

By launching this sensitization campaign, Freetown Terminal Limited has positioned itself as a proactive advocate for workplace safety and community wellbeing. The initiative not only addresses immediate concerns about substance abuse but also lays the foundation for a healthier, more resilient workforce and society.
