FREETOWN, SEPTEMBER 3rd, (SALONE TIMES) The Three communities in the east of Freetown; Moeba, Mamba-Ridge and Sesay Lane are currently death traps a situation if not quickly addressed will lead to the loss of lives and property.

The heavy downpour of rains in the city has led to serious damage to the only road linking those three communities.

The rain also left stones and part of the hills hanging over dwelling houses as well as the main road. A number of houses were damaged by loose stones that rolled downwards from the hills into those houses.

Moeba, Mamba-Ridge and Sesay Lane communities have over 40,000 inhabitants. It also connects routes to Regent, Gloucester, Fourah Bay College and Mount Aureal.

Andrew Bangura one of the Co-Founder of Moeba Emergency Response Team and also the Assistant Secretary General and Coordinator for the Moeba Self Help Road Project said the community people have tried with their little hard-earned money with the supervision of the Moeba, Mamba-Ridge and Sesay Lane Development Association (MMASDA) to pave some parts of the road before the rains yet the community is still trying to solve this problem but it is really not easy for them as a vulnerable community.

He described the community as a ring and useful one if proper plans are put in place it will take them to another level.

Andrew expressed how terrible he felt the previous morning when he saw a pregnant woman fell and rolled down the drain while the rain was pouring on her. He ran to assist her and the motorbike (Okada) rider under the heavy rains. .

During the cause of the heavy downpour of rains, trees and boulders of rocks fell on the roads and houses. Whiles Andrew and the rest of residents of those three communities’ on the rains and the rocks that hang on them, they are seeking government and Non-Governmental Organization intervention before it’s too late.
