The Sino Sierra Leone Alumni Association (SISLAA), with support from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Sierra Leone, has successfully concluded a three-day university engagement tour across Northern and North-Western Sierra Leone aimed at promoting the Chinese MOFCOM-CSC Scholarship opportunities among students, lecturers, and professionals.

The nationwide sensitization campaign was divided into two regional teams. One team, headed by SISLAA President Mr. Augustine T. Mansaray, engaged institutions in the South-East region, while the second team, led by SISLAA Vice President Mr. Foday Nangai, coordinated activities in the North and North-West regions.

The outreach programme in the North took place from 12th to 14th May 2026, covering major tertiary institutions including the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology (EBKUST) on 12th May, the University of Makeni on 13th May, and the Ernest Bai Koroma University of Science and Technology, Port Loko Campus, on 14th May 2026.

The northern regional tour climaxed with a well-attended symposium held at the Great New Auditorium Hall of the EBKUST Port Loko Campus on Thursday, 14th May 2026. Officials from the Chinese Embassy joined the final engagement session, further demonstrating the Embassy’s commitment to strengthening educational cooperation between Sierra Leone and China.

Speaking during the event, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of EBKUST, Dr. Maurice Baimba Kargbo, who is also a senior member of SISLAA, delivered an inspiring statement highlighting the importance of the scholarship sensitization programme. He commended SISLAA and the Chinese Embassy for bringing such opportunities closer to students and pledged his continued support in spreading awareness both in his capacity as Deputy Vice Chancellor and as a proud member of SISLAA.

In his remarks, SISLAA Vice President Mr. Foday Nangai explained the purpose of the engagement and provided participants with a step-by-step guide to the MOFCOM-CSC scholarship application process. This was followed by a detailed presentation outlining the eligibility criteria, required application documents, and important guidelines for prospective applicants seeking to pursue postgraduate studies in China under the scholarship scheme.

The interactive session concluded with a vibrant question-and-answer segment during which participants raised several important concerns and inquiries. Responses were jointly provided by officials from the Chinese Embassy, SISLAA members, and representatives of the Sierra Leone-China Friendship Association.

Participants expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing the engagement as timely, informative, and highly beneficial for students and professionals aspiring to further their education in China.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks delivered on behalf of the participants, followed by a group photograph session to commemorate the successful engagement.
