Africell Launches Telemarketing Centre to Empower Visually Impaired Graduates

Africell Sierra Leone, through the Africell Impact Foundation, has launched its first Telemarketing Centre at the Milton Margai School for the Blind, creating employment opportunities for visually impaired graduates and reinforcing the company’s commitment to disability inclusion and sustainable development.

The centre, officially commissioned on Tuesday, was unveiled by the Chairman of Africell Group alongside the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Shadi Al-Gerjawi, Chief Executive Officer of AfriMoney, Mr. Martison Obeng-Agyei, government officials, school authorities, and other invited guests.

The initiative is the first of its kind by Africell in Sierra Leone and will be operated entirely by visually impaired employees. According to the company, it is designed to promote economic empowerment, equal employment opportunities, and financial independence for persons with disabilities.

Speaking during the ceremony, the Principal of the Milton Margai School for the Blind, Mr. Salieu Turay, described the launch as a historic milestone for the institution and the disability community.

“Today is a memorable day for our school. Africell has demonstrated confidence in the abilities of our graduates by providing them with meaningful employment opportunities,” he said.

Mr. Turay thanked Africell for its investment in the lives of visually impaired young people, noting that 24 graduates will benefit from the project. He encouraged the beneficiaries to embrace the opportunity with commitment and professionalism, describing Africell as a Champion of Hope and Inclusion whose partnership would leave a lasting impact.

Director of Social Welfare at the Ministry of Social Welfare, Mr. John Conteh, said the initiative proves that persons with disabilities can excel when given equal opportunities.

“When persons with disabilities are given the chance, they demonstrate their capabilities. Employment is more than earning a living, it restores dignity, builds confidence, and promotes independence,” he said.

He commended Africell for leading by example and called on other corporate institutions to replicate similar initiatives to foster a more inclusive Sierra Leone.

Chief Executive Officer of AfriMoney, Mr. Martison Obeng-Agyei, said the Africell Impact Foundation remains committed to purpose-driven initiatives that create lasting social impact.

He said the beneficiaries had demonstrated the skills and determination needed to succeed after undergoing specialised training.

“We have trained them and will continue to provide the support, equal pay, and workplace rights they deserve. This initiative will enable them to support their families, become breadwinners, and contribute meaningfully to national development,” he said.

Mr. Obeng-Agyei described the telemarketing centre as only the beginning of Africell’s disability inclusion programme and invited other corporate organisations to join the movement towards equal opportunity.

“Blindness is a condition, not an inability. Together, we can build a society where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.”

The Africell Telemarketing Centre is expected to serve as a model for inclusive employment in Sierra Leone, reflecting the company’s broader commitment to empowering vulnerable groups and driving sustainable development through innovation, opportunity, and equal access for all.
