NOC/CGA’s President Uses Sports To Build Relationship With Other Countries For Sierra Leone At Glasgow

The President of the Sierra Leone National Olympic Committee/ Commonwealth Games Association Prince Vandy Sualley has said while in Scotland he is using one stone to kill two birds.

In this case, he said he is not only giving advice to the athletes but he is also using this opportunity to meet with other sports administrators and political heads.

While in Scotland the NOC/CGA President met with the UK Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Andy Burnham during the opening ceremony of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The two personalities discuss lengthily on ideas of how to use sports to bring development in a country. The UK Prime Minister said the Games celebrates the commonwealth’s shared commitment to sport, unity and international cooperation and said they wish Sierra Leone athletes success during the Games.

The NOC/CGA President said he was delighted meeting with the first gentleman in UK and chat with him. Prince also met and discussed with members of the Royal family on the opening day of the Games. This, he said is good part of sport as it will take one to places and enable someone to meet important people in the world.

The president also met with different NOC Presidents and officials in Glasgow and held fruitful discussions with them. In his address to the athletes, he told them to behave like ambassadors and put up their best behaviour and represent Sierra Leone well

He told them that though they are looking for winnings they shouldn’t feel discourage if they failed to win. He told them to return home and prepare for other competitions as Rome was not built in a day.

Winning medal, he said also goes with discipline and hard work. One thing he said, he is happy for is that for the past three years the results build up a good team that is representing Sierra Leone in the Games.

He re-echoed into their ears that they went through a lot to let acquire visas for them and they should not repeat what lead them to that. Prince commended the Government of Sierra Leone for providing funds for the Games.
